Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic will not be joining Manchester United any time soon, though his agent has admitted that a future move to the Premier League is a possibility one day.
The former Sevilla captain – who won the 2013/14 Europa League – signed a five-year contract when he moved to the Nou Camp for €20 million (£16.1m) in the summer of 2014.
According to the Daily Star, Mourinho values Rakitic at around £35million and had identified him as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Rakitic has already begun talks over a new deal and his agent Arturo Canales has suggested that the Croatia international will remain in Catalonia for the time being.
He said: “Ivan is very happy at FC Barcelona, where he has been tremendously successful and has a contract with the club until 2019.
“Ivan loves football and is only 28 years old. Having played in Switzerland, Germany and Spain, who knows if one day he’ll be ready to have an experience in England, but for now he’s a FC Barcelona player.”
Since joining Barcelona, Rakitic has become a key component to the team’s midfield, especially as at the time of his arrival they were looking to replace club legend Xavi.
From the midfielder’s nine La Liga appearances this season, he has scored two goals, provided one assist and completed 88% of his passes.
Canales – one of Europe’s top agents and president of Actyvos Group – also represents Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.
