Breaking: Man Utd Officially Agree Another Massive January Deal

And just like that, it’s all over. Memphis has officially left Manchester United and joined Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1, confirming the news — as is now de rigeur (we can speak French, too) — with a trendy tweet. “I hope to make you all proud” was all it contained, aside from a stylised photograph of Memphis surveying his new home, the Rafael da Silva Arena imaginatively named Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

According to the BBC, the fee is thought to be in the region of £16 million rising to £21.7m, though they claim that United have — wisely — demanded both buy-back and sell-on clauses in the deal.

Memphis leaves United having played 53 matches in all, with just eight having come under José Mourinho. In all, he scored seven goals in the 45 games in which he featured under Louis van Gaal, and leaves most fondly remembered for the brace he scored against Club Brugge in a Champions League qualifier. Or, that is what he’d be most fondly remembered for, if anyone actually could actually remember it unprompted:

Best of luck, Memphis; we may well see you in a red shirt again one day.
