Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could be offered an escape route to Brazil.
The 32-year-old is yet to feature for United this season, although he was named on the bench for the 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday.
He has been linked with a January move to MLS side Chicago Fire. But Santos manager Dorival Junior has suggested they are also interested in the former German international.
He said: “I told them we should try to get a big name in world football or at least send an invitation.
“It was just a recommendation. It won’t hurt us to try. We didn’t only speak about Schweinsteiger, but other players too.
“A player like that can lift the level of the team but he has to come with an objective and an appetite.”
