BENFICA legend Antonio Veloso is not surprised by Manchester United’s interest in signing central defender Victor Lindelof.
The Sweden international has emerged as a priority target for Jose Mourinho ahead of the January transfer window.
According to Portuguese paper Record, United are on the brink of completing a deal for Lindelof, 23.
Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira travelled to Manchester on Monday for talks with Old Trafford chiefs after receiving a £38m bid.
And former Portugal international Veloso, who spent 15 years as a player at the Estadio da Luz, is gutted that Lindelof is Old Trafford-bound.
“It’s no surprise to me that Lindelof is being transferred,” Veloso said.
“I just did not know if it would be now or at the end of the season, since there was strong interest from Manchester United and other clubs.
“He is an important player in Benfica, but the team has other high-quality ones like Jardel or Lisandro, and does not lose.
“But we are sorry to see him leave, of course.”
