Deal Close: Man United £32m star on the verge of joining Premier League side

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has reportedly emerged as a loan target for Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 23-year-old has endured a tricky debut campaign in English football, failing to nail down a consistent first-team spot at Old Trafford.

However, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has called for patience while Lindelof gets accustomed to the English game.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves are eager to snap up the Sweden international on loan as they seek to bolster their ranks ahead of their return to the top flight.

The report claims that the working relationship between Mourinho and agent Jorge Mendes, who also has connections with Wolves, could prove crucial in the West Midlanders completing the deal.

Lindelof has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Man United since his 2017 move from Benfica.

Meanwhile, United have cooled their Jorginho, allowing rivals Manchester City a free run at the Napoli midfielder.

Premier League champions were already leading the race to sign the elegant Italy international with Napoli eyeing the likes of Claudio Bravo and Aleks Zinchenko in return.

According the MEN, United have now abandoned their pursuit of the 26-year-old and will focus their attentions on other midfield targets. Jose Mourinho has earmarked strengthening his engine room as a priority this summer with Michael Carrick set to retire and uncertainty surrounding the futures of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini.

It is believed that Carrick, who will take up a coaching role following the final game of the season, has already been tasked with running the rule over several of Mourinho’s primary targets.
