Manchester United are closing in on their first summer signing after triggering the release clause of Diogo Dalot, reports say.
The Porto right-back is set to become Jose Mourinho’s first major signing of the window as the United boss works to add more quality to his defence.
Man United triggered the £17million release clause in the 19-year-old’s contract and will make an announcement in the coming days, the Telegraph claim.
Dalot has already agreed personal terms with United and will compete directly with Antonio Valencia for a first-team place. The teenager only broke in Porto’s first-team this season, but is in the final year of his current deal.
The Red Devils regard him as a massive prospect and have swooped quickly to avoid a bidding war.
Dalot attracted the attentions of several other top European clubs and Porto have turned down several offers for his services in the last 12 months.
All those bids were below the release clause figure, United is the first side to trigger his exit. Mourinho is on the hunt for several new defenders this summer, with another full-back also on the agenda.
