Done Deal: Man Utd Long-term Target Signs New Five-year Deal

MANCHESTER UNITED target Lucas Hernandez has extended his Atletico Madrid contract.

The 21-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, committing his future to the club until 2022.

He joined the club at the age of 11 and has established himself in the first team after progress from the club’s academy.

“It is great news for all Atletico fans, he is a player with enormous potential with a spectacular future to come,” said the club’s sporting director Jose Luis Caminero.

Hernandez – who is capable of playing at left-back or centre-back – has made 20 appearances this season.

He has also won five caps for France at Under-21 level.

Spanish news outlet Don Balon reported last week that Hernandez is on Jose Mourinho’s wish list.

The United boss was said to be preparing to launch a bid this summer.

A new central defender is high on Mourinho’s agenda due to fitness doubts over Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
