Man United 30-year-old star set to shock fans by joining Arsenal

Unai Emery has spoken to Marouane Fellaini about leaving Manchester United to join Arsenal, according to reports.

The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of June and would be able to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer. Before United’s campaign had ended, Jose Mourinho was confident that Fellaini was close to signing an extension. But the 30-year-old is yet to agree terms and is now free to negotiate with other Premier League clubs.

According to The Times, Arsenal have scheduled talks with Fellaini for Wednesday. But the report claims that Emery has made contact with the midfielder since he was officially appointed as Arsene Wenger’s successor less than two weeks ago.

Emery was also keen on Fellaini during his time as Paris Saint-Germain’s manager and wanted to sign the Belgian in January. Fellaini is demanding an improvement on his £80,000-a-week salary at United has rejected the offer of a new one-year deal.

Arsenal are in the market for a new central midfielder and Fellaini would represent a cheaper option than Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi or Jean-Michael Seri, who has a €40 million (£35m) release clause in his contract with Nice.
