Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has told the Red Devils Antoine Griezmann would be perfect at Old Trafford.
With the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic still in the air following a serious knee injury sustained in the Europa League quarter-final win over Anderlecht last Thursday, United are shorn of options in attack.
Ibrahimovic looks set to up to 12-months on the sidelines, robbing United of their 28-goal leading scorer, while rumours persist the Swede is set to depart in the summer.
Wayne Rooney also looks set to leave United in the summer, which means Jose Mourinho will have only young strikers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial at his disposal.
The pair have hit form of late but the pursuit of Atletico Madrid goalscorer Griezmann, who has scored 60 La Liga goals in 106 appearances for the Spaniards, is paramount according to his fellow Frenchman and former United defender Silvestre.
“You need a lot of energy now in the modern game. Antoine has that. He has a lot of talent. He has got the right attitude. He would be perfect for United,” Silvestre told the Manchester Evening News.
“The fans would love him. His stamina, workrate, his finishing. It would be a great signing for Manchester United.
“In my time we had Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Teddy Sheringham – proven goalscorers. Ruud van Nistelrooy – proven goalscorer. Louis Saha – proven. Wayne Rooney – proven. That’s what you need. It is a priority.
“Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are not regular 25-goals-a-season players yet. They have some time to go to be that kind of a player who will produce week in, week out.
“You need someone like Antoine. Manchester United need him. Someone you can rely on to produce consistently. At 26 he is the right age and has a proven goals background.”
