Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their bid to sign Alex Sandro after Juventus revealed that they plan to extend the Brazilian’s contract.
Sandro is reportedly one of Jose Mourinho’s priority targets to strengthen the left side of his defence, but a deal to sign the 27-year-old could cost United upwards of £45 million.
Chelsea were also keen on signing Sandro last summer but failed to agree a deal with Juventus. And now the Serie A champions are ready to hold talks with the left-back over a new deal.
‘We’ll meet with the agents and the representatives of Alex Sandro,’ Juventus’ general manager Beppe Marotta said on Thursday.
‘We’ll see each other next week and I think it’s desirable to extend the contract.’ United are also pushing ahead for a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham.
Alongside Man Unite, Alex Sandro has also been linked with a move to their direct Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Meanwhile, reports in Italy are claiming that United have reached a £44m agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign Fred.
