Manchester United and Chelsea are set to go head-to-head for Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer after the French club decided to cash in on the midfielder, according to reports.
Bakayoko, 22, has attracted interest from the Premier League after a number of eye-catching performances for Monaco in the Champions League this term.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea watched Bakayoko during Monaco’s 3-1 win against Manchester City in March, though the Ligue 1 giants also have a host of other stars attracting attention.
Bakayoko signed for Monaco from Rennes in 2014 and, though the French club are determined to tie him down to a new deal, the midfielder’s intimated that he will not sign a new contract, according to Le10Sport.
Monaco will not allow the Frenchman to run down his contract to devalue his worth and have decided to let him go this summer with two years left on his deal.
Conte criticised Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola this week for spending the most cash last summer but the Italian’s expected to make signficant improvements to his side at the end of the current campaign.
The Blues are on course to win the double but Conte wants to strengthen his side’s spine and faces the threat of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa leavi
Mourinho has admitted his plans for this summer have been affected after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury and the Red Devils may need to sign two centre forwards.
However, United are light in central midfield after the departures of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastain Schweinsteiger and Bakayoko is deemed a perfect fit.
Both United and Chelsea are thought to have made initial contact with Monaco for the player and the French club will sell to the highest bidder.
