THE time has come for Wayne Rooney to leave Manchester United and move to China.
That’s according to former Premier League star Shaka Hislop who has told the United legend to cash in away in the Far East.
Rooney, who recently become United’s all-time leading goalscorer, is wanted by the mega-rich clubs in the Chinese Super League.
Hislop insists Rooney would represent the ultimate signing for any of the CLS teams and believes the time is right for him to now leave Old Trafford.
He told ESPN: “I think the time is coming for Wayne Rooney and that is meant with no disrespect to what has been an outstanding career.
“I think [moving to China] makes a lot of sense for a number of different reasons.
“Rooney is on a huge contract at Manchester United. He’s not going to get that anywhere else he goes [apart from China] if he wants to continue playing for a couple more seasons.
“For the Chinese Super League, for all the players they’ve got in and all the money they’ve spent, nobody has the name recognition of a Wayne Rooney.
“It makes sense for both the Chinese Super League and Wayne Rooney for them to spend money and bring him to the Far East.”
Rooney scored his 250th United goal in their 1-1 draw with Stoke last weekend to overtake Bobby Charlton in the club’s history books.
The 31-year-old has found his playing time cut back under Jose Mourinho this season and he’s been consistently linked with leaving the club in the near future.
