Jose Mourinho has seemingly ended Michael Carrick’s chances of getting a new contract after the Manchester United boss hinted the midfielder is too old.
Carrick recent resurgence of form seemed to have paved the way for a one-year extension, but Mourinho was less than positive about the prospect of handing the veteran a fresh deal.
The United star turns 36 in the summer and Mourinho hinted his age was the reason Carrick would be leaving the club.
‘Let’s be honest,’ began Moruinho.

‘I have seen many positives in Carrick.
‘But I cannot go to his identity card and delete five years.
‘Michael is not 30.’
Carrick’s current deal expires in the summer, but after missing just two of United’s last ten league games it was believe Mourinho wanted him to stay another year.
The midfielder has been at Old Trafford since 2006 and has won five Premier League titles as well as collecting a Champions League winners medal.
