David De Gea has told Manchester United that he wants a world-record transfer move to Real Madrid in the summer, according to reports in Spain.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper has made 266 appearances for United since arriving at Old Trafford back in 2011 but is expected to complete a switch the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
Marca suggest De Gea instructed the Red Devils to negotiate a move to Madrid three weeks ago before he mysteriously missed out on the side’s trip to Sunderland at the beginning of April.
Jose Mourinho insisted that De Gea had picked up a hip problem but it’s now suspected that there was tension between the pair over the Spaniard’s demands.
‘I’m not interested in talking about speculation, I don’t think he should be interested in talking about it either,’ Mourinho said at the time.
‘We’re playing against very important teams, every game is crucial and I don’t see that David is having any problems with this.
‘The end of the season is the time when players can think about what will happen to their careers.’
