MANCHESTER UNITED are expected to complete the signing of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.
The 22-year-old Sweden international was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for a new centre-back to partner Eric Bailly.
According to Bleacher Report, Lindelof will cost United around £50m.
Mourinho is set to be backed in the transfer market with a £300m war chest in a bid to turn the team into title contenders.
The United boss has had to chop and change his defence with Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo all spending lengthy spells on the sidelines.
Lindelof extended his Benfica contract in March until 2021.
When asked why he put pen to paper, he said: “I enjoy playing for the club and feel I am developing every day. It was an easy choice.”
Despite the new deal, reports in Portugal in February suggested United have secured a first refusal option.
Lindelof has made 45 appearances in all competitions this season.
