Manchester United are favourites to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Danny Rose with the full-back keen to move back up north this summer, according to the Mirror.
Rose moved to Spurs in 2007 having progressed through the youth system at Leeds United and he’s developed in to arguably the best left-back in the Premier League during his time in north London.
Despite enduring a frustrating injury-plagued campaign, the 26-year-old has firmly established himself as Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice left-back and he’s now also a regular in the England national team.
However, Rose has been linked with a transfer away from White Hart Lane this summer and the Mirror are reporting that the Doncaster-born full-back is keen to secure a move back up north over the coming months.
Understandably there will be plenty of interest if Rose is on the market and the newspaper says that Manchester United are leading City in the race to sign the defender with their rivals focussing their efforts on landing Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy.
Jose Mourinho desperately needs to sign a top class left-back as it was a problem area for United last season with a number of players occupying the position throughout a mixed campaign.
Rose’s availability has alerted Mourinho with the Mirror claiming United are now favourites to sign the defender in what would be a sensational piece of business if they could get a deal agreed.
I’m sure Tottenham will do all they can to keep hold of Rose but with a strict wage structure in place, the north Londoners are going to find it difficult as their best players know they can earn a lot more elsewhere.
Rose, recently hinted he could be ready for a new challenge after admitted that Spurs may struggle to keep their squad together with the defender suggesting some may look for a move after ending another promising season without a trophy.
It looks like Tottenham are already preparing for the worst as the Mirror claim they are braced to lose the £50m-rated Rose with Pochettino already understood to be looking in to potential replacements with United’s Luke Shaw touted as an option.
Shaw has just finished off another disappointing season and he’s being tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer after failing to establish himself under Mourinho so there could be a sensational swap-deal on the cards.
