Manchester United are aiming to land Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic before the midfielder signs a new contract at the Nou Camp, according to reports.
Rakitic has scored 19 goals in 123 appearances for Barca since making his debut for the Catalan outfit back in 2014 but the 28-year-old is yet to agree to a new deal.
The Croatian’s contract expires in 2019 and the La Liga giants are desperate to wrap up a new deal by the end of the current campaign.
However, the Sun suggest United manager Jose Mourinho is plotting a move to bring Rakitic to Old Trafford before this happens.
Mourinho is scouring the market for midfield reinforcements following a difficult start for his side in the Premier League this term.
Reports suggest the Portuguese boss is also showing an interest in Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil who, like Rakitic, is yet to sign a new deal at his club.
