Manchester United have made contact with Torino over the transfer of £100m-rated striker Andrea Belotti, according to reports.
The Italy international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and has a £100m release clause in his contract.
The 23-year-old’s scored 27 goals in 34 appearances for the Turin-based club this term and Torino are powerless to stop him moving on if United meet the release clause.
Jose Mourinho had made Antoine Griezmann his number one target and, though he’s still keen on the Frenchman, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury has accelerated United’s need for a traditional centre forward.
According to ESPN, a senior official at United has made contact with Torino over a move for Belotti and the Red Devils are expected to bid for him this summer.
Torino are unlikely to fetch Belotti’s release clause but he is tied down to a contact at the club until 2021 – meaning they hold all the cards.
United, though, will have significant amounts to spend this summer and the departures of both Ibrahimovic and Rooney will free up plenty of space on the wage bill.
