Jose Mourinho wants to make Eric Dier his first summer signing at Manchester United in a £40 million deal from Tottenham, according to reports.
The Sun claims that the United manager views the England international as Michael Carrick’s long-term replacement in central midfield.
Carrick’s current contract expires at the end of the season and admitted at the start of March that he had not held talks with Mourinho about extending his stay at Old Trafford.
Dier, 23, has also been linked with Chelsea this season amid reports that he was unhappy with playing at centre-back in Toby Alderweireld’s absence.
The Sun also claims that Mourinho is looking to add a centre-back, a central midfielder and striker this summer and Dier is wanted as the man to kick off the summer spree.
