Man Utd Ready to Hijack Chelsea’s Move for ‘exceptional’ £35m Centre-back

ROMA star Antonio Rudiger is reportedly set to spark a transfer battle between Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Germany international has been impressive in Italy this season and is in high demand ahead of the January transfer window.

The Sun claim both Chelsea and United want the defender and will face off against each other for his signature this winter.

Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho have been given the green light to splash the cash next month and both have Rudiger on their radars.

The Sun report that Roma need to sell some of their stars in January in light of their financial problems.

The Serie A club would prefer to offload Greece defender Kostas Manolas but he is not attracting interest like Rudiger.

Instead, they may have to let £35m-rated centre-half, much to boss Luciano Spalletti’s frustration.

Rudiger, who missed Germany’s Euro 2016 campaign with a serious knee injury, has made 12 appearances for Roma this season.

Spalletti’s side are currently second in the Italian league table, seven points off leaders Juventus. The defender, who spent three years in Borussia Dortmund’s youth system, was hailed in April by Roma boss for his ‘exceptional’ performances.
