Man Utd transfer news: Superstar’s high wages and transfer fee deterring summer move

Manchester United have been perhaps the biggest club on the transfer market in the past two years, with Mourinho, Ibra, and Pogba all coming into one of the world’s most historic and legendary clubs. This summer is no different, with headline stealing potential moves for Atletico’s Griezmann, Real Madrid’s Morata, Monaco’s Mbappe, and now Bayern’s Lewandowski added to that list. As Mou attempts to reconstruct an entire squad, he has been given the green light for many difficult targets. But one name that is falling further down the pecking order without gaining too much attention is Wayne Rooney. As reported by the Daily Mirror in England, the Red Devil striker could have a difficult time finding a new home.

The England international and Manchester captain looks increasingly likely to be forced to the bench this upcoming season, but still has one more year on his contract and an option for another after that. Suitors will be lurking in the shadows should the former Everton player enter the market for a reasonable price, but his wages are currently a huge stumbling block. Rooney nets about 300,000 GBP per week at Old Trafford, and although Everton were thought to be in for their youth product.

There was talk of a transfer to China, where Rooney could potentially earn more money than he does at Old Trafford, but that talk has cooled off recently. It is thought that the 31 year old and his wife are not particularly interested in moving their children to Asia, and would prefer to stay if possible. This sets up an interesting choice for the player, who still has a few solid years left in his legs and will want to be playing regularly as the World Cup approaches. For now he remains a Manchester player…
