Man Utd’s Next No.7? Club President Adresses Potential Transfer

After just 18 months at Manchester United, Memphis Depay departed for pastures new with Ligue 1 club Lyon, leaving Old Trafford, and his squad number, firmly in the past.

So, who is a big enough personality to pull off wearing the shirt previously worn by Geroge Best,  DavidBeckham and Cristiano Ronaldo? Well, everybody seems to be casting a glance towards Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

The Telegraph reports that Manchester United are prepared to pay the Frenchman’s €100 million (£86 million) release clause in his contract at the La Liga side.

And Atletico coach Diego Simeone suggested this week that he would let Griezmann depart if he asked to leave the club.

However, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has different ideas and has vowed to do everything possible to keep Griezmann on their books for the long term.

“There are many offers,’ Cerezo said. “I don’t know what will come of Manchester United’s interest. What I can say though is that Griezmann will be an Atletico player for a long time.”

“He [Griezmann] is in an extraordinary moment. He is working well, he has got back on the scoresheet. He is currently in great form and it’s normal that the top clubs in the world want him. I’m not surprised that those that can afford him are seeking him.”
