Danny Higginbotham believes that Romelu Lukaku is set to be a brilliant signing for Manchester United this summer.
The 24-year-old Belgian is on the verge of a move to Old Trafford after widespread claims that the Red Devils had agreed a £75m fee with Everton for the striker, which Manchester United confirmed on Saturday morning.
The claims came after speculation linking Lukaku with a return to Chelsea, three years after he left the Blues to sign for Everton.
Lukaku is a proven Premier League goal-scorer, with the striker having netted 25 goals in the top flight for Everton last season.
And former Manchester United defender Higginbotham reckons that Lukaku could be just the man the Red Devils need to take them to the next level.
Writing in his column for the Sun, Higginbotham said: “Romelu Lukaku will be a brilliant signing for Manchester United if the deal goes through.
“He is exactly the sort of striker Jose Mourinho likes: big, strong, good in the air and quick.
“He was at his most unplayable last season for Everton when he played on the shoulder of the last defender.
“Playing that way pushes the opposition defence deeper because they are worried about the ball over the top or the through ball putting Lukaku one-on-one with the keeper.
“When defences drop deeper they go narrower, too, so this will create opportunities for United to get crosses into the box, which Lukaku will feed off.”
Manchester United are preparing to jet off to the United States for their pre-season tour of America on Sunday.
The Red Devils are set to make a return to the Champions League next season after their Europa League triumph last term.
