Nemanja Matic has sent a subtle message to Jose Mourinho over Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Red Devils have been linked with Lazio’s Milinkovic-Savic for several weeks as Mourinho scours the market for midfield reinforcements ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
Milinkovic-Savic impressed alongside Matic in Serbia’s World Cup victory over Costa Rica on Sunday and many United fans are hoping they are team-mates at Old Trafford next season.
It’s understood Milinkovic-Savic has an £87.5m release clause in his contract and Lazio and Real Madrid and Juventus are also queuing up for the midfielder.
Ahead of Serbia’s clash with Switzerland, Matic posted on Instagram: ‘Together we are always stronger.’ Many United supporters immediately reacted in the comment section, jumping to the conclusion that the deal was as good as done.
Milinkovic-Savic played down rumours of a summer transfer when pressed on his future ahead of the World Cup. ‘It’s nice when people are talking about me,’ he admitted.
‘But I don’t place too much importance on these things. I’m happy at Lazio and am feeling good here for now, but then we will have to see.’
