Not Morata/Bale: Mourinho demanding €55m Real Madrid star in De Gea swap deal
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly only allow David De Gea to join Real Madrid if the deal sees Raphael Varane move the other way.
Mourinho handed Varane his Real debut after signing him from Lens in 2011.
And, according to Diario Gol, the Portuguese is eyeing a reunion for the pair at Old Trafford.
They claim he is hoping to take advantage of Florentino Perez’s interest in De Gea to land the €55.2m-rated France international.
Varane, 24, still has three years left to run on his contract at the Bernabeu.
He played a key role in helping the Spanish giants win their first league title under Zinedine Zidane this season.
The defender is apparently viewed as a long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos.
And Diario Gol suggest the Real hierarchy will have to decided whether it is worth losing him in order to finally lure De Gea back to Madrid.
The Red Devils meanwhile, will be playing Champions League football next season after they beat Ajax in the final of the Europa League last week.
Mourinho is expected to bolster his squad ahead of a return to Europe’s premier club competition.
It’s believed that he handed a wish-list of targets to United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward two months ago.
Varane was one of several big names from abroad included on the list along with Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and Tiemoue Bakayoko of Monaco.
Premier League stars Willian, Romelu Lukaku, Eric Dier and Michael Keane are also targets for the former Chelsea boss.
