Manchester United are preparing a £59million offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Marquinhos has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising defenders in his four seasons with PSG but the 22-year-old is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Goal suggest the Red Devils are willing to offer the Brazil international £8m-a-year wages, with Jose Mourinho on the hunt for defensive reinforcements ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
However, it’s understood PSG are desperate to keep hold of Marquinhos and are reluctant to sell the youngster for any price should rival clubs come calling.
Mourinho holds doubts over Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, with the English pair both suffering injuries this term, and the Brazilian has emerged as a potential target.
It’s believed Marquinhos’ huge wage demands could see United prise the defender from PSG’s grips this summer.
His father Marcos Barros recently told Goal: ‘It’s not just a matter of money. It’s a matter of how he can be one of the best players in the team.
‘PSG needs to show him that he is one of the most important players in the team.’
