Barcelona have announced they have agreed a deal in principle with Benfica for right-back and Manchester United target Nelson Semedo.
Ernesto Valverde’s side have taken a huge step towards finding a new right-back after making that position a priority in the transfer window this summer.
Barcelona were heavily linked with a move to re-sign former academy graduate Hector Bellerin but have now moved to secure the services of Semedo, who will now undergo a medical and agree personal terms.
The Portugal international was heavily linked with a move to United throughout last season but Barcelona have won the race for the sought-after 23-year-old in a deal worth a reported £26m.
Only Alex Telles (8) provided more assists in the Portuguese Liga NOS than Semedo (6) of all defenders last season.
