Manchester United are optimistic about their chances of signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier as they prepare a formal move, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho allegedly identified Dier as a leading summer transfer target as he’s willing to give him the midfield role he wants after being deployed as a central defender by Mauricio Pochettino.
He’s been brilliant at White Hart Lane this season and Pochettino has previously dismissed questions about a potential summer exit.
Telegraph’s James Ducker claims Everton and Liverpool are also interested in his services as he favours a holding midfield role in the longer-term which has been filled by Victor Wanyama.
Jose Mourinho was willing to sign him in January but realised there would be a slim chance of Tottenham selling to a direct rival in mid-season.
Daniel Levy is one of the toughest negotiators in the game as we’ve seen from previous attempts to sign Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov, and he won’t be letting go of Dier easily, who is believed to be worth around £40m.
There’s stiff competition for United and with Tottenham just behind Chelsea in the Premier League, it’ll be a massive task to get him to leave as Champions League football will play a huge influence in his decision.
