Saint-Etienne have put a £12 million price tag on reported Manchester United target Kevin Malcuit.
Citing reports in France, TalkSport relayed as much, with United boss Jose Mourinho having taken a shine to the right-back during the Red Devils’ UEFA Europa League tie against the Ligue 1 side.
West Ham United are also said to be in the hunt for the 25-year-old’s signature.
United aren’t desperate for a new right-back thanks to the resurgence of Antonio Valencia this season.
However, the Ecuador international will be 32 in the summer, and Matteo Darmian has yet to show he can adequately replace him in the long term.
As such, recruiting another full-back ahead of next season could prove to be a shrewd move from United.
Malcuit is defensively solid and looks to contribute going forward when he can—he has also provided cover in more advanced positions on the right flank this season.
The Frenchman is indeed a reliable ball-winner and a strong dribbler, though his final delivery could perhaps still use some work. So too could his discipline—while he’s only been booked three times in Ligue 1 this season, he’s also received two straight red cards.
Malcuit could make for a decent squad player, but that could be the limit of his usefulness to a club of United’s size and ambition.
