Report: Man Utd line up £50m bid for Ligue 1 striker

Manchester United have reportedly turned their attentions to Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette after going cold on Antoine Griezmann.

United appeared set to wrap up a 100m euros deal for Griezmann before it emerged on Thursday that Jose Mourinho is now focusing on other targets, with a centre-forward supposedly the priority due to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury.

The news came shortly after it was disclosed that Atletico had lost their appeal against a transfer ban, meaning the La Liga side are unable to register any new players until January.

Lacazette was set to replace Griezmann at Atletico, but The Mirror claims the France striker is now wanted by United.

Everton centre-forward Romelu Lukaku and Torino striker Andrea Belotti were said to be at the top of United’s wanted list but Lacazette is also among their targets, with the 26-year-old available for around £50million.

Lacazette is also being eyed by Liverpool and Arsenal, but United’s financial muscle and Champions League status means they are likely to fend off any competition, should they indeed make a formal proposal.

The Lyon striker scored 28 goals in 30 Ligue 1 games last season, taking his tally to 76 goals in 97 matches over the last three years.
