Napoli forward Dries Mertens is edging closer to joining Manchester United this summer, according to reports in Italy.
The Belgian has revealed in a more central role this season and his tally of 20 league goals is the third best in Serie A.
The 29-year-old is into the final 18 months of his contract and Napoli have been frantically trying to get him to agree terms.
The Italian club have been proposing a new deal worth over £2million, but Mertens has so far refused to put pen to paper.
And now, according to La Repubblica, the Belgium international is moving closer to joining Manchester United this summer.
The Premier League giants have reportedly held preliminary talks with Mertens and he is eager to make the switch happen.
Man United are also hungry to get a potential deal over the line and they are said to be happy to pay Mertens a salary of around £4.5m-a-year.
