Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is reportedly keen on a move to Manchester United.
Manchester Evening News claim Jose Mourinho considered signing the 22-year-old in January – along with Benfica’s Victor Lindelof – but the Red Devils boss opted against the move.
And United could return to land the Atletico star at the end of the season.
Gimenez is out of contract next summer but has a £56m buyout clause in the deal.
And MEN say United are reluctant to pay the mammoth fee.
United are expected to splash the cash in the summer and Mourinho wants to bolster his defensive ranks.
The Special One wants a new centre-back to partner Eric Bailly at Old Trafford.
Gimenez has started 16 games under Diego Simeone this campaign with the Atletico boss starting Diego Godin and Stefan Savic at the heart of his defence.
