Transfer boost: Barcelona cool interest in £79m Man Utd target
Barcelona have reportedly cooled their interest in Manchester United and Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele after sealing the transfer of Gerard Deulofeu.
The Borussia Dortmund forward has been linked with a host of top clubs this summer, though the Bundesliga giants have repeatedly insisted that he’s not for sale.
Dortmund have even threatened legal action over clubs pursuing the France international, who is said to have held talks with Manchester City without his club’s knowledge or consent.
Barca now seem to have given up on Dembele after re-signing Deulofeu from Everton and choosing to give their former academy star one last chance to prove himself in their first-team.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants could try again for Dembele next summer, though Premier League clubs may now hope they have more of a chance of snapping him up.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also shown an interest in the talented 20-year-old, and are both in need of new attacking players this summer.
United are struggling to finalise a deal for top striker target Alvaro Morata, while Chelsea seem to be facing similar frustrations in their efforts to bring in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for Diego Costa.
Still, Dortmund sporting director was recently quoted as saying: ‘Ousmane Dembele has a long-term contract and there are no negotiations.
‘He will play for us next season and if (rival clubs) do not contact Dortmund, we could initiate proceedings with FIFA.’
Dembele scored 10 goals and contributed 18 assists in his first season at Dortmund last term, but was said to be increasingly open to leaving after the departure of Thomas Tuchel as manager.
