19-year-old superstar snubs £350,000-a-week United offer and eyes PSG move

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly on the cusp of an agreement to sign Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt.

De Ligt, 19, had an outstanding campaign for Ajax, captaining the club to their first domestic double in 17 years, and Europe’s heavyweights have been at war over the central defender’s signature.

Though Manchester United offered De Ligt a £350,000-a-week contract to make the Dutchman the highest paid teenager in world football, the Red Devils have lost ground on their rivals in this summer’s fiercest transfer race.

Barcelona and Juventus have also made advances for De Ligt, but their efforts appear to have been in vain as PSG are on the verge of signing the Netherlands international, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The report suggests that De Ligt’s agent, Mino Raiola, spoke with PSG sporting director, Antero Henrique, in the French capital on Tuesday and talks are expected to continue into Wednesday.

It’s claimed discussions are at an ‘advanced’ stage and the Ligue 1 champions could get their man once Leonardo’s return as sporting director is complete.

Leonardo, who is a free agent after stepping down at AC Milan last month, is set to take over from Henrique imminently and could be key to getting a deal over the line for De Ligt.

The Brazilian, who served as PSG’s director of football from 2011 to 2013, has a close relationship with Raiola and previously helped broker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Maxwell’s moves to Paris.
