Chelsea and Man Utd go head-to-head to sign 26-year-old French defender

Premier League giants Chelsea, Manchester City and Man Utd are reportedly all considering moving for La Liga giants Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti during the January transfer window.

The France international recently dropped hint that he could look to depart from the Spanish champions unless his current position within the team starting XI changes.

The 2018 World Cup winning defender is no longer considered first choice at the Catalan club with his compatriot Clement Lenglet emerging as Gerard Pique’s preferred partner at the defensive end.

According to L’Equipe, City view Frenchman as the player to solve their defensive problems at the start of 2020, however, the Premier League champions could face stiff competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has only played five first-team games for the Spanish giants this campaign.

Barca are unlikely to allow the defender to depart from the on the cheap, though, as his current deal at Camp Nou will run until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are eyeing move for another La Liga defender Jose Gaya who is also on the radar of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as both Premier League giants are keen on to strengthen their full-back options when the transfer window will be re-opened in January.
