According to The Telegraph, AS Roma have reportedly held talks with Manchester United over a possible loan move for forward Alexis Sanchez.
The 30-year-old only returned to training last week following his involvement in the Copa America with Chile over the summer.
Sanchez has failed to nail down a regular first team place since his arrival at Old Trafford in January 2018 and has scored just three Premier League goals for the Red Devils.
As per the same sources, Roma have been offered the opportunity to take the player on a season-long loan. However, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down claims that the attacker may leave the club.
“I do expect him to stay, there’s a striker there we think is going to be able to score some goals,” the Norwegian told reporters.
The Italian market remains open until September 2 despite the window closing in England earlier this week.
Meanwhile, David de Gea’s future at Manchester United is reportedly still in the balance after it emerged that the Spaniard was stalling on signing a new deal at Old Trafford.
It is understood that contract talks between De Gea’s camp and United have been complicated by the former using Alexis Sanchez’s wages – said to be around £400,000 a week – as leverage to get the 28-year-old a better deal.
That said, the current offer on the table would make De Gea the highest-paid keeper in world football, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stressing on several occasions that he was confident that the Spaniard would reach an agreement with the club.
