Intermediaries have contacted Manchester United over the possibility of signing Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.
The Brazilian has struggled to settle at the Camp Nou since his £142million move from Liverpool in January 2018. The playmaker is no longer a regular starter under Ernesto Valverde and the La Liga giants are open to selling him this summer, provided they can recoup close to their original outlay.
United have been earmarked as one of the few clubs in world football that could afford the Brazilian and intermediaries have spoken to the Red Devils over a move for him this summer, according to the Independent.
However, though Coutinho meets the calibre of player that United are seeking this summer, the club have other positions that they need to prioritise and cannot afford to spend over half of their budget on the Brazlian.
Instead, United will focus on Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, who they value at around £80m. The 19-year-old has made a rapid rise to stardom in Germany and United are keen on strengthening their right-wing this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be appointed on a permanent basis this summer and will be handed significant funds to strengthen his squad. United are also expected to appoint a Director of Football, though their targets this summer will not be influenced by a new arrival.
