Man United have to beat PSG in race for £55m top-class playmaker

Manchester United face fresh competition in the race to sign Bruno Fernandes with Paris Saint-Germain interested in the Sporting midfielder.

The Red Devils have been chasing the 24-year-old all summer but Sporting’s hefty asking price has proved a stumbling block in their pursuit of the Portugal international.

Sporting want at least £55m for Fernandes, which has put off some suitors and has delayed United making a bid for him. The Daily Mail now reports that Paris Saint-Germain are also showing an interest in Fernandes, but are also put off by the weighty transfer fee.

However, the Parisians are ready to pounce if another bid comes in for the midfielder. Sporting are waiting for United, PSG or any other clubs to meet the price they have set, although they may be forced to lower it as they hope to cash in this summer.

Fernandes, who has 13 caps for Portugal, scored 20 goals from 33 league games last season, with six more in other competitions.

His goal-scoring prowess from the middle of the park has caught the eye of a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Tottenham having also shown an interest this summer.

It was reported earlier this week that Manchester United were confident that a deal will be done for Fernandes, but they may now need to move a bit quicker than planned with the interest of PSG.
