Man United keeping close tabs on €30m-rated Italian midfielder

Man United desperate to sign Roma footballer Lorenzo Pellegrini and ready to pay big money for the footballer in January when the transfer window opens again. Jose Mourinho is desperate to bolster his midfield options and could lose both Ander Herrera and Juan Mata if they fail to agree on new contracts by the end of the season.

Corriere dello Sports report that United have taken a major step to give Mourinho a new midfielder by submitting a ‘huge offer’ to Pellegrini. The report claims that United have told the midfielder, via his representative, that they are willing to offer more than double his current £35,000-a-week basic salary. United also have the opportunity to capitalise on Pellegrini’s current situation at Roma as he has a €30 million (£27m) release clause which can be activated at any point in July.

Roma, however, want Pellegrini to sign a new contract and are keen to remove the £27m clause in his existing deal. Following the departures of Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan in the summer, Pellegrini became an unchanged figure for the club and he already scored two goals and made five assists in 13 appearances this season.
