La Liga giants Real Madrid have agreed a £47million move for Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek, dealing a huge blow for Man Utd.
The Dutch midfielder is among the most sought-after players in Europe after helping the talented Dutch midfielder to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
The Los Blancos are keen to recruit a long-term successor to Croatian playmaker Luka Modric, in the middle of the park, and have identified Dutchman, Van de Beek as the perfect man for that role.
As first reported by the Sunday Mirror, a contract has been struck between the two teams for the Dutchman to make the switch this summer.
It comes as a massive blow to Man Utd boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who had hoped Donny Van de Beek could spearhead his midfield as the Norwegian bids to restore the Red Devils to Europe’s top table.
Norwegian manager was keen on Van de Beek along with English midfield pair Jack Grealish and James Maddison.
Ajax star mpending move to the Santiago Bernabeu could accelerate the 20-times English champions attempts to land either Grealish or Maddison.
During Ajax’s mid-season camp in Qatar, Donny Van de Beek rubbished rumours that he could leave Amsterdam Arena in January.
“I have said it before and I will say it again: I will remain at Ajax this season. And maybe next season as well,” he said.
“These reports about Real Madrid or Manchester United are a good sign, but it is not important now. I’ve said I will stay at Ajax and I will do so, 100 per cent.”
