Man Utd set to make approach for Serie A in-form forward

Manchester United are planning to make a January move for Serie A giants AS Roma and Italy midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, however, will face stiff competition from PSG if they decide to make an approach.

The 20-year-old has been the most sought-after talents in Europe after becoming a key player at AS Roma and bursting onto the international scene as well.

The Italian wonderkid made his national debut in March and has managed to found back of the net in his first two goals for his country in the 9-1 battering of Armenia last week. Previously rumoured with a switch to Tottenham, Zaniolo has regularly been talked up as a target for top teams from the Premier League and now Man Utd have joined the race./

However, the Express report that Ligue 1 defending champions, PSG are also keen on the Italian, which means that it won’t be easy for the Red Devils to secure his services as AS Roma slapped £50m price tag on his head.

Roma are under no pressure to sell as he only signed a new contract, keeping him there until 2024, but, they could still be tempted to sell for a healthy transfer fee.

The Red Devils may have an advantage over PSG as they can use Chris Smalling to sweeten the AS Roma.

The England international is currently on a short-term deal with Italian giants, however, has impressed and the club and being tipped to continue his career at Stadio Olimpico.

‘Interest from England? It would be easy to say ‘Yes, why not’, but it wouldn’t be me,’ said Zaniolo

‘I tell you the truth, I recently kissed the Roma shirt and I want to kiss it anytime I score a goal.

‘I’m very happy, Roma have given me so much confidence, now I’ll repay it on the pitch. I’m proud to represent these fans, I feel very good here.’
