Monaco not keen on parting company with Man United transfer target

Manchester United have reportedly had an opening offer rejected by Monaco for Benoit Badiashile, according to the latest reports in France.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to make up for Harry Maguire’s lack of mobility at the heart of the Red Devils’ defence by signing in a centre-back with the pace this summer and the likes of Nathan Ake and Gabriel Magalhaes have been strongly linked with moves to Old Trafford.

But Ake completed a £41 million move from Bournemouth to Manchester City last month and Les Dogues’ Gabriel is set to be unveiled by Arsenal over the coming days.

The Red Devils have also been keeping a close eye on Badiashile after an impressive second campaign in Ligue 1 and entered into talks with Monaco earlier this month to gauge the talent’s potential availability.

According to RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi, the Red Devils lodged an initial bid of €25 million (£22 million) for the youngster but the proposal was swiftly rebuffed by the French side.

Monaco head coach Niko Kovac has asked the board to reject all offers for Badiashile as the youngster is key to his plans for the new season.

A source close to the club told RMC Sport: ‘Benoit will stay unless Manchester United make an irrefutable offer like the one for [Anthony] Martial.’

Martial became the most expensive teenager in history when he swapped Les Monegasques for United in a shock £36m move back in 2015.

This transfer sum has since been eclipsed by Matthijs de Ligt, Kylian Mbappe and Joao Felix.
