Giallorossi could reportedly get a boost in their pursuit of the Red Devils centre-back Chris Smalling as it’s suggested that they may get additional funding to make their move. England international spent last campaign on loan with the Italian club and impressed with his consistent form in the heart of their defence.
However, with no deal found to extend his remain either temporarily or on a permanent basis, it looked as though Chris’ time in the Stadio Olimpico had come to an end and he would be heading for a come back to Man United.
It’s suggested that while Giallorossi are still short of the Red Devils demands as they want €20m to greenlight an exit while Roma are only offering €14m, they are set to gain a financial boost as Patrik Schick is expected to leave to join Bayer Leverkusen in the coming days and so that could help them bridge the gap.
Time will tell if it’s enough to reach a deal, but the Giallorossi will certainly hope so as Chris made a hugely positive impact on the last campaign and they’ll have a huge void to fill if Smalling doesn’t come back for the new season.
From a Red Devils perspective, the Norwegian manager looks ready with the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, and so a boost for his transfer budget might also be a welcome sight with much time left in the summer transfer window to complete more deals and balance the books.
