Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that Axel Tuanzebe could have a role to play at Manchester United next season after enjoying an excellent campaign on loan at Aston Villa.
The 21-year-old has spent much of the past 18-months with Villa in the Championship and played an important role during their promotion-winning season last term featuring 28 times.
Tuanzebe played every minute of Villa’s play-off campaign including in their 2-1 victory over Derby County in the final at Wembley and the club had been keen to re-sign him this summer.
However, it appears as though Tuanzebe will be given a chance to stake a claim in United’s squad after impressing Solskjaer during the club’s pre-season tour of Australia.
Solskjaer said: ‘Axel has got a great chance of staying here and playing. He had a great season last year, albeit a stop-start season with injuries, but he’s really proven that he’s capable of playing at this level.
‘He got promoted with Aston Villa and he’s come back very strong and focused. He did well in the first game here in Perth, so he’s one of the young exciting players I can’t wait to see more of.’
Tuanzebe has been with United since the age of eight and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year in 2015 before being integrated into the senior step-up.
During Jose Mourinho’s time in charge, Tuanzebe was handed eight appearances prior to being sent out on loan to Villa to gain more regular first-team football.
