Mario Mandzukic is reportedly ‘waiting’ to join Manchester United as Ed Woodward lines up a January transfer move for the striker.
The Red Devils spent almost £150million on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James this summer but failed to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s options in attack.
That is despite Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku and Chile forward Alexis Sanchez leaving the club, both to join Inter Milan. Manchester United have endured an underwhelming start to the new season, winning just two of their six league fixtures to sit eighth in the Premier League.
Solskjaer’s side have only scored six goals in their last seven outings and are already looking to reinforce their attacking options in January. Recent reports say the Premier League giants have identified Ousmane Dembele and Mario Mandzukic as targets.
Juventus and Croatia striker Mandzukic emerged as a figure of interest in the summer and, according to Tuttosport – via Sport Witness – he is keen to join United in January.
Manchester United could secure a cut-price deal for Mandzukic, 33, who is yet to feature for Italian heavyweights Juventus this term.
Solskjaer enjoyed a bright start to his managerial career at Old Trafford but has struggled since being named as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor.
‘I never said it was going to be easy this season,’ the Manchester United boss said on Friday morning. ‘There are going to be ups and downs. When we lose a game, we have to trust ourselves and what we’re doing. The culture is there, there are no issues with attitude, work-rate or desire.’
