Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly allegedly prefers a move to Manchester City over Manchester United amid persistent speculation about a potential switch to the Premier League.
The Senegalese star has been tipped to make the move to England for the past few months, although City have reportedly reached an impasse in talks due to Napoli’s valuation of Koulibaly.
A recent report claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s Manchester United could attempt to steal a march in the hunt for the highly-rated defender, with the CItizens also said to be looking at Atletico Madrid star Jose Gimenez, having already brought in Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.
However, Italian outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno claims that Koulibaly wants to seal a move to a high-profile club before it is too late, with the 29-year-old star currently tied down to Napoli until June 2023.
While talks between City and Napoli have already been dragged out for a while, the report adds that talks could be further impacted as Napoli chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis has tested positive for coronavirus.
Kalidou has turned out 246 times for Napoli since arriving from Jupiler Pro League side Genk back in 2014, notching up 10 goals in that time.
Meantime, Manchester United are allegedly considering whether to scrap their efforts to land Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Since the turn of the year, the Red Devils have been heavily linked with the England international, who has proved himself as one of the star players in the Bundesliga.
Although it has been recently claimed that United have made progress with regards to personal terms, the two sides are yet to agree a fee.
According to the Daily Star, United are willing to shelve their interest for this year, maintaining that they won’t meet Dortmund’s £108m asking price.
